The month of May is, among other things, the month to celebrate asparagus! It's National Asparagus month! In season from around 23rd April until June, now is the perfect time to get eating this remarkable vegetable. A gorgeous green which can be cooked in a variety of ways, namely, boiling, steaming, frying, roasting or throw some on the BBQ! It's also perfect for any meal time: breakfast, lunch or dinner!
Not only is it delicious and can be cooked in various ways and at various meal times, it is also healthy! It is a rich source of Vitamins A, B, C and K as well as folic acid and is considered to be a diuretic. It's high alkalinity helps to cleanse and has anti-inflammatory properties.
It comes in many different varieties, the most common being the green version, but it also comes in white and purple.
