January can be a bit of a sparse month. The indulgence of Christmas is over, it's cold and for some, it's Dryanuary, so no alcohol! It's also Veganuary. The month of being vegan and not eating meat, fish or dairy products. In recent years there has been a huge surge in support of veganism, due in part to some celebrities highlighting the issues relating to animal welfare.
Veganuary was launched in 2014, and some 50,000 people are expected to sign up to Veganuary. Many people that sign up are not solely concerned with the animal issue, but also the environment and health. About half of those that sign up will remain vegan.
